The School District of Horicon is proud of the many opportunities we provide for our students. During the past few years we have made many positive changes to meet our District goals:
1. Promote programs to create a positive environment.
2. Improve the use of technology to help students learn.
3. Improve the rigor and relevance of our curriculum.
4. Offer strong co-curricular programs.
A successful school begins with a positive learning environment. While we recognize that all students will make mistakes from time to time, we also recognize that this provides us with an opportunity to help them to grow and learn how to be better citizens. Our students and staff have recognized that we have created a very positive learning environment in our schools. If you have not stopped in to visit recently, please do so. I am confident you will be impressed. Please refer to the article titled "Horicon is changing school climate positively" that was published in the February 13, 2014 Dodge County Pionier.
Our recently passed referendum has allowed us to greatly improve the use of technology for our students. Chromebooks, iPads, SmartBoards and our wireless network are now fully functioning to help our students gain these important skills.
Of all our improvements, an increase in the rigor and relevance of our curriculum is the most impressive. Intervention and Enrichment blocks in the elementary and middle school are helping all students to achieve success. Our increased data collection through the use of MAPS testing helps us to guide students as they grow and succeed. At the high school, we have added several upper-level courses including more Advanced Placement courses. We now offer courses in AP English, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics. We have also upgraded our curriculum in the Career and Technical Education courses of Agriculture, Business, Family and Consumer Education, and Technology Education.
In recent years we have also focused on adding more opportunities for our students in the area of co-curricular activities. In addition to our athletic programs we offer opportunities in FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, Creative Dramatics, forensics, NHS, school musical, school play, Student Council, and SADD. We have also focused on character education through our many organizations and activities.
I would also like to thank our parents for the positive role they play in helping our students to be successful. We believe that we can best help our students by working together to meet the needs of all students. Thank you to everyone who has joined us in that effort.
