Keybr

Keybr.com does not force you to type random characters over and over again; that is simply boring and contributes very little to your learning. Instead, Keybr.com generates readable random words using the phonetic rules of your native language. These words look almost natural, and often they really are. Typing sensible text is much easier than random letters, and it helps you to remember frequent key combinations. For example, it’s almost impossible for the letter ‘W’ to follow the ‘Z’ in English, and you will never type this combination in Keybr.com. Instead, you will type more common words, such as “the,” “that,” “with,” and so on. Keybr.com lets you introduce as few keys as possible to the lesson, adding more keys later when you feel that you are competent and fast enough on the current level. So, if you start with the keys from the Caps Lock row, then add keys form the Tab row, and then from the Shift row, you will eventually end up typing real text with capital letters and punctuation.

Keybr is probably the simplest of the sites that teach touch typing for free. It has a colorful and easy to understand interface that can help you get started really quick. As you start typing, the letters you miss are highlighted in red so that you know where you are going wrong.

Goodtyping

Learn how to type correctly in just a few hours using all your fingers.  You will soon be typing faster than you ever imagined.   Goodtyping offers a free touch typing learning course that teach you the basics of correct hand and finger placements, and then provides starter as well as advanced lessons to help you learn touch typing the right way. The courses are available in various languages and for different types of keyboards.

Powertyping

Powertyping has touch typing lessons and typing games. As you see in the first screenshot below, it wants you to start by selecting one of the two keyboard types (Qwerty and Dvorak) and shows lessons accordingly. The lessons it offers are quite comprehensive and everyone, irrespective of his or her age, can easily understand and practice the lessons.

Speedtest
Here you can test how fast you are. Just type in the words. Are you faster than all the others? A nice side effect: these are the most used english words. Every time you try to beat the score, you improve your typing speed :)

Sense-Lang

Since 2001 we have provided a free, very unique and user-friendly learning method proven to help each and every person learn, practice, and improve your typing speed and accuracy. Sense-lang offers free as well as premium touch typing tutorials along with a certification once you pass the final tests. The free program should be enough for starters because it has all kinds of lessons and courses.
