Wisdom is gained by years of listening when what we really wanted to do was talk.
Personal and Educational Background
I am a proud lifetime resident of Horicon. I am married to a hometown boy. We both attended and graduated from school in Horicon. I attended UW-Oshkosh and received my Bachelor of Education degree. We raised our three children in Horicon, all of whom graduated from Horicon High School. I went back to school and received my Master's of Education degree at UW-Whitewater while my children were in middle and high school. Continuing education and training is on-going as new things are developed and old things change.
I began my teaching career in Beaver Dam teaching Early Childhood. The following year I took a position in the Waupun District teaching Specific Learning Disabilities. After a short period of time off to raise my children, I was offered a half-time position in the Horicon District teaching Special Education middle school students. Throughout a series of years and changes, I ended up being a full-time Cross-Categorical teacher in lower elementary. I have been in this position since My student's needs, learning, personalities, and talents have been wide and vast. I have had the pleasure to work with so many wonderful children and incredible families.
Every student can learn. Learning can be done in many ways and in many manners. It is a personal style, like everything else that we do. It makes us who we are. I will facilitate and find the ways and manners that make learning fun and fulfilling, while making sure each student is as successful as they can be.
Every student needs someone to listen to them. Listen to their worries, their dreams, their concerns, and their beautiful discoveries about themselves. Through listening, you help them learn about themselves and gently guide them to learn strategies and ways to deal with all of life's successes and failures. We all need to be validated and heard, especially children.
The best part of my job is when a student discovers the power of reading. Reading is one of the most joyful and enriching experiences I know. When they discover that too.....it makes all of the hard work make sense and worthwhile.
I love to read! I usually have two books going at once. I adore being with my family and we spend as much time together as we can. I have three adult children that are married and live in the area. I have adorable grandchildren......3 girls and a boy. Two attend Mayville schools and two will be future students right here in Horicon. That will be the fourth generation of Curry children attending the Horicon public schools. My husband and I like to be outside gardening and relaxing. We have two dogs that go with us everywhere.
I am available through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. I check my messages frequently and will respond as quickly as I possibly can. I am also available through the district phone number at extension #264. Please stop in to see me at any time throughout the day, as well as, before and after school. I would love to see you and enjoy the personal contact.
